Your first breaking class
Is Breaking beginner-friendly?
Absolutely. Breaking footwork is learnable by anyone, regardless of dance background. Good beginner classes teach you the basic steps at a comfortable pace, and there's no pressure to land freezes or power moves straight away. The style is built on improvisation, which means you can express yourself from day one—no choreography to memorise.
Do I need any prior dance experience to start Breaking?
No prior experience is needed. Many people come to Breaking with no dance background at all. A willingness to listen to music, move your body, and have fun is genuinely all you need. Experienced dancers often find Breaking harder than they expect because it requires listening and improvisation, not just technique.
What should I wear to a Breaking class?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes (joggers, tracksuit bottoms, or jeans) and trainers with good ankle support and a smooth sole. Breaking is casual and street-rooted, so don't overthink it. The right footwear is more important than the outfit—your shoes need to let you glide and pivot smoothly.
