Directions

Before you go

Your first bachata class

Is Bachata beginner-friendly?

Absolutely. Bachata is built on a simple four-step pattern that beginners grasp within the first 15 minutes. The music is slow and gives you time to think. Most studios run absolute-beginner classes where everyone is learning together—no prior dance experience needed. You'll feel nervous before your first class and proud by the end of it.

Do I need a partner?

Bachata is traditionally a partner dance, so yes—you'll dance with a partner in class. The good news: you don't bring your own. Studios rotate partners regularly, and you'll dance with different people each class. This is actually brilliant for beginners because you learn to adapt and communicate with lots of partners, not just one person.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, flexible clothing—joggers, leggings, or loose trousers work perfectly. Avoid anything too stiff or restrictive around the hips. For shoes, smooth-soled dance shoes are ideal, but many beginners start in clean trainers or socks. Ask your studio what they recommend. Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel confident.
