KIDS' DANCE CLASSES
IN YORK.

Toddler movement classes start as young as 2 or 3, often with a parent in the room. Structured ballet, jazz or street classes typically begin at 4–5. Specialist exam tracks and competitive teams usually start from 7+.

Match the class to your child's age band, check the teacher's qualifications and background-check clearance, ask about the adult-to-child ratio, and look at the curriculum. Most York studios offer a trial class — use it to gauge fit.

A standard weekly children's class in York is typically £5–£12 per class, often billed as a term or monthly fee. Exam tracks and competition teams can cost more once costumes and exam fees are added.

Pre-school movement, baby ballet, creative dance and beginner street are common starting points — playful, coordination-building, and easy on attention spans. From 7+ children can specialise into ballet exam tracks, hip-hop, contemporary or musical theatre.

For most beginner classes: leggings or shorts, a fitted t-shirt, hair tied back, and bare feet or ballet/jazz shoes. Ballet may have a specific uniform once your child is in regular classes — the studio will tell you.
