JOB DESCRIPTION.

§ WHAT GOOD ADVERTS HAVE
WHAT TO PUT IN IT.
- The style and level. "Ballet teacher, RAD grades 1–3" gets better applicants than "dance teacher".
- Who the students are. Teaching adult beginners and teaching five-year-olds are different jobs.
- When and where. Give the days, times and location. Most teachers fit classes around other work.
- The pay. Say whether it's per class, per hour or a salary, and give a number or a range.
- Checks and insurance. If they'll teach under-18s, ask for an enhanced DBS check. Freelancers normally bring their own public liability insurance.
- How to apply. Ask for a short note and a video link. That tells you more than a CV.
§ EXAMPLE

Our studio is looking for a part-time ballet teacher to teach beginner classes for children.
The role
- Plan and teach fun, well-structured ballet classes for beginner children, on Saturday mornings.
- Build each student's technique, musicality and confidence, and help them progress.
- Run safe classes with a proper warm-up and cool-down, and adapt moves for different bodies and abilities.
- Follow our safeguarding policy and keep parents up to date on progress.
About you
- Strong ballet training and experience teaching groups.
- An enhanced DBS check (or the local equivalent), or happy to get one.
- Warm, patient and organised, and good at explaining things clearly.
- A recognised teaching qualification is a plus, but not essential.
How to apply
Send a short note about your teaching experience, plus a link to a video of you teaching or dancing ballet.
§ FAQ
Dance teacher job descriptions — common questions
What should a dance teacher job description include? +
The style and level you need taught, who the students are (adults, children or teens), when the classes run, the pay and how it's paid (per class, per hour or salary), the experience and checks you need, and exactly how to apply.
Should I put the pay in the advert? +
Yes. Teachers compare several roles at once, and adverts with a clear rate are easier to say yes to. If it depends on experience, give a range.
What checks does someone teaching children need? +
In the UK, anyone regularly teaching under-18s should have an enhanced DBS check, and your studio should have a safeguarding policy they agree to follow. Other countries have their own equivalents.
Do freelance dance teachers need their own insurance? +
Usually, yes. Freelance teachers are normally expected to hold their own public liability insurance. Employed staff are covered by the studio's policy.
Where can I post the job? +
You can post it free on the DanceHow teacher jobs board. The generator fills in the posting form for you, and we review each post before it goes live.
