Before you go
Your first country & two-step class
Is Country & Two-Step beginner-friendly?
Absolutely. The basic step is genuinely simple—it's a slow-slow-quick-quick-quick pattern that most people pick up in the first 15 minutes. Instructors assume you're starting from zero and pace classes accordingly. You'll feel some progress in your first session.
Do I need a partner, or can I dance Country & Two-Step alone?
Country & Two-Step is a partner dance, but beginner classes usually have rotating partners or teach the basic without a partner first. You don't need to bring a partner—studios handle the partnering, and switching partners regularly helps you learn. Many dancers find the social aspect of partnering is half the fun.
What should I wear to a Country & Two-Step class?
Wear comfortable clothes like jeans or trousers and a t-shirt. Footwear is the key: you need shoes with a smooth sole that allows you to pivot and glide. Dance shoes, cowboy boots, or smooth-soled shoes work well; trainers with gripping soles can stick and slow you down.
